I don't need to go onto Facebook and pretend to have friends I've never even met. To my mind, that kind of destroys the meaning of the word 'friend.' I take exception to that. Because I value and respect friendship.

The Meaning of This Quote

This quote is saying that the speaker believes that having friends that you’ve never met on social media websites such as Facebook is not what real friendship is about. They believe that real friendship requires meeting the person in person and forming a physical connection, and that using the word ‘friend’ for those who you have never met doesn’t really have the same meaning. The speaker is expressing their disagreement with this idea, as they consider friendship to be something very important and valuable.
