I read once that the ancient Egyptians had fifty words for sand & the Eskimos had a hundred words for snow. I wish I had a thousand words for love, but all that comes to mind is the way you move against me while you sleep & there are no words for that.

The Meaning of This Quote

This quote is saying that love is something that cannot be put into words. The speaker wishes they had more words to express the feelings of love that they have, but all they can think of is the way their special someone moves when they are sleeping and there is no way to explain this accurately with words. The quote is also making a comparison to the ancient Egyptians and Eskimos, who had a large vocabulary for sand and snow, respectively. By comparing the speaker’s feelings of love to sand and snow, it shows that they lack the language to properly express their feelings.
