Forgiving an enemy can be easier because it is not as personal. An enemy is someone we don’t have a close relationship with or have a shared history with. It’s easier to let go and move on without any expectations. On the other hand, forgiving a friend is often more difficult. Friends share a lot of history, both the good and the bad. This shared history often complicates forgiveness because there are many more expectations and hurt that may be involved. Friendships can be profound and can last a lifetime, so having to let go of hurt caused by a close friend can be painful and difficult.
