You don't seem to realize that a poor person who is unhappy is in a better position than a rich person who is unhappy. Because the poor person has hope. He thinks money would help.

The Meaning of This Quote

This quote suggests that being poor can actually be an advantage for somebody who is unhappy because the poor person has something to hope for: a better life with more money. In other words, the poor person believes that having more money will make them happier and they have something to strive for. Meanwhile, the wealthy person may not have anything to hope for because they already have money and they may think that more money won’t really change their situation. So in essence, the quote is saying that being unhappy and poor can actually be better than being unhappy and wealthy.
